How Exactly Does Electrolysis Work
Science Behind The Method
Electrolysis was first used to remove eye lash hairs on people that suffered from trichiasis, which is when eyelashes grow inward instead of outward. Since the inception of this hair removal method there have been new techniques and advances in the types of electrolysis. The ultimate end goal of electrolysis is to achieve permanent hair removal by closing the hair follicle so it is no longer able to produce a hair.
As you can see in the picture a very small (0.003 micron) probe is placed directly into the follicle and a very small amount of current is run through it. When this current flows through the follicle it changes the molecules of salt (NACL) and water (H2O) into sodium hydroxide (NaOH) which causes a chemical reaction on a very small level and permanently destroys the hair follicle below the skins surface.
When properly done, there should never be scarring or "pocking" of the skin in area of the body. It is essential that any electrolysis technician have accurate technique to ensure the highest success. This technique has been proven time and again since electrology has been around for more than 100 years.

Anagen And Early Anagen Phase
The very beginning of hair emerging from follicles is considered the Anagen phase. Roots are developing along with hair coming out of the follicle.
Catagen Phase
During this phase hair is at maturity.
Telogen Phase
Hair starts to fall out due to the root beginning to shrink. Hair falls out and returns to the anagen phase.
Every region of the body has different hair growth and shedding cycles. It is important to remember that if you remove a hair and a week later there is a new hair in that area, it is coming from a different hair follicle.
